This blog is for all of us afflicted with diabetes in our families. My daughter is Type 1 Juvenile. Which to me was a Death sentence. I watched my Father passaway at a young age of 48 after numerous problems of Juvenile Diabetes himself. I watched him go blind at the age of 44. He had already had numerous heart attacks; from conjestive heart failure. If it wasn’t for my Mom rubbing my Father’s feet for hours on end, he probably would have been an amputee.
Back in those days the average life span of a diabetic was about 25 yrs., many of those latter years were spent deterorating. But during these last years of my Father’s Life, he grew so much more in , spirituality, & stamina. He had such a full life before his diabetes stabilized his enability to do the things he did to make a living. My Dad was a wise man. He was a good Father. He was a good husband to my Mother. In the end they were like newlyweds holding hands always. He set my Mom up like a queen.
What I’m saying is, “There is something good for every bad.” ALWAYS!! Visa-Vera.
Naturally, when my daughter was diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of 12, my first thougts were of death by 37yrs of age. My daughter never knew her Pa. He died 2 yrs before my baby girl was born. Just in time to add life back into our family. And also to inherit her Pa’s incurable deadly disease. THis is what my Baby Girl had to say about her diagnosis; 2 to 3 regular daily insulin shots w/ needles full of insulin, injected into her muscle tissues, & 4 to 6 pricks per day on her finger tips. “what ever it takes to live”.. is the strong words that cam from my baby girl of 12 yrs. In my heart, I knew, my daughter would become 1 of the healthiest people alive; because she had to be too live. Her life is one of miraculious recoveries at different points in her last 13 yrs. of being a diabetic. Teenage years, and rebellion and/or denial of her disease. Inspite of her bodys rejection of 2 other unborn babies. Her will & determination to be a Mother, was blessed with a beautiful baby boy.
